يقدّم هذا الكتاب قراءة فلسفية جذرية لمفهوم الأخلاق خارج ثنائية الخير والشر، وخارج أوهام القيمة والحرية الميتافيزيقية. بدل النظر إلى الأخلاق كمنظومة وصايا أو مبادئ متعالية، يقترح فهمها بوصفها وظيفة بنيوية للفعل داخل شبكة من الضرورات البيولوجية والاجتماعية والمعرفية.
ينتقل العمل من نقد التمركز حول «القيمة» وسقوط الغائية، إلى إعادة تعريف مفاهيم الخطأ، والمسؤولية، والمعنى، بوصفها ظواهر تتكشف من داخل اشتغال الفعل نفسه لا من أحكام خارجية. هكذا تتحول الأخلاق من مجال الإدانة إلى مجال الفهم، ومن معيار للامتثال إلى قراءة دقيقة للاتساق الداخلي للبنية الواعية.
إنه مشروع لتأسيس «أخلاق بلا وصايا»، حيث لا يُقاس الفعل بما ينبغي أن يكون، بل بقدرته على التماسك والاستمرار داخل صرامة الواقع.
