ولد جوهان- غوتليب فيخت في 19 أيار من سنة 1762 في رامينو وهي قرية من قرى مقاطعة ساكس الألمانية الواقعة بين مدينتي دريسدن وبوتزن في مكان غير بعيد عن الحدود الحالية الألمانية- التشيكوسلوفاكية، في أسرة متواضعة، في سن الثامنة عشرة والنصف غادر فيخت المدرسة، وبحوزته شهادة كفاءة وتقدير نالها بسبب خطابه باللغة اللاتينية عن الاستخدام الجيد لقواعد الشعر والبيان.
وفي سن الثانية والعشرين أنهى فيخت دروسه اللاهوتية ولكنه لم يكن ميالاً لتدريس اللاهوت. وعندما بلغ الثلاثين من عمره بدأت حياته كفيلسوف فأصبحت له شخصية مركزها خاصة وآراء في فلسفة "الأنا" أي الذات ونظرية "العلم".
وهذا الكتيب يهدف إلى التعريف بفلسفة فيخت وذلك من خلال قراءة وتحليل مؤلفات، كما وفيه ترجمة لسيرة فيخت الذاتية، وفيه أيضاً نصوصاً مختارة من كتبه.
