اعتنى الأدباء المعاصرون بعناوين رواياتهم، بحيث يكون العنوان جزءاً من الرواية ومعبراً عنها، مثل ما فعلت الكاتبة اللبنانية ناهد فرّان في رواية "فودو"، فعند النظر إلى عنوان الرواية فإن أول سؤال قد يتبادر للذهن ما المقصود به؟ هل كتبت فرّان عن الذين يؤمنون بالفودو "صفة من يملكون القدرة والامتياز الروحي للتواصل مع الأسلاف"، أم كتبت عن أصله ومفاهيمه، أم ترمي إلى شيء أبعد من ذلك بكثير؟ وتستمر الحيرة عندما نقرأ عن وصية الجدّة ذات الأصول الأفريقية، لحفيدتها اللبنانية "كوني على العهد" والعهد يعني البحث عن جذورها في أرض أخرى يُفترض أنها تنتمي إليها.
تبدأ الحفيدة رحلة البحث، وتتوجه صوب الساحل الأفريقي بقصد فكفكة (اللغز) الذي تحمله الوصية.. لتواجَه بعالم غامض، لم تتوقع يوماً وجوده أو وجود ما يشبهه، لجماعات تنتمي بالدم إليها، ولمعتقدات آمن بها أسلافها وأورثوها لأبنائهم والتي هي الحفيدة تعود بأصلها إليهم... ويبقى همّها في اللغز الذي حيرها! تُرى ما هو (السرّ) الذي أرادت الجدّة الكشف عنه بعد مماتها، وماذا سيحمل للحفيدة من مفاجآت جديدة؟! رواية ناهد فرّان "الفودو" هي عن كل شيء: الجذور، الحب، الخيانة، الأديان، التاريخ، السياسة، الاقتصاد، الحرية، العبودية، وعن الحاضر والماضي معاً. هي رواية تتعلق بموقع روحي، متجسد ومتفرد، تحتاج إلى قراءات متعددة لتسلُّم بعضاً من مفاتيحها. قراءات جديدة تليق بمقام الرواية وكاتبتها ذات المنحى الحداثي، التي لا تكف عن إثارة الأسئلة في أعمالها الروائية، عوضاً عن تقديم الأجوبة الجاهزة. سوف تُشكل إضافة نوعية إلى مخزون الرواية العربية.
