هذه هي الرواية الثالثة للكاتب والأديب "سعود الشعلان"، جاءت بعد رواية "مهل"، و"مات الجسد وانتهت كل الحكايات" لتؤكد مكانة هذا الأديب الرفيعة في عالم الرواية.
تمتاز هذه الرواية بموضوعها الجديد الذي يشدك إلى معرفة ما تؤول إليه الأحداث، فبعد إختفاء "عادل" شقيق بطل الرواية "نهار" في ظروف غامضة، يفعل "نهار" المستحيل ليجده، ويأخذ على عاتقه مهمة البحث عنه، فيصبح من مرتادي مراكز الشرطة والمستشفيات عله يجد له آثر.
وأثناء ذلك يمر "نهار" بسلسلة من العقبات تجعله ييأس من العثور عليه في المدينة، فيضطر الإنتقال بالبحث إلى المناطق البعيدة عن الخبر، وكانت "ماريا"، الفتاة الذي يحبها، السند الاكبر له في تداعيات هذا الحدث المأساوي الذي يمر به...
ومن خلال سرده لمأساة "نهار" يستعرض لنا الكاتب واقع المجتمع بحسناته وسيئاته، بأسلوب متفوق جداً من ناحية الحبكة، ومتسلسل الأحداث ليقدم للقارئ العربي من رواية من أفضل ما كتب.
كتب المؤلف على الغلاف الخلفي لروايته: "في اليوم الذي تختار فيه الأشجار نوع الطيور التي تحطُّ عليها أو تعشِّش فيها.. سنكون حينها قادرين على اختيار نوع التجارب التي نخوضها .. فهناكَ أشجار تقع عليها الغربان.. وأشجارٌ أخرى تعشش فيها البلابل..".
يؤكد المؤلف لنا نظرته التي لم تتغير عن الدنيا فهو يخبر دوما أن الدنيا حين تعطي لا بد أن تأخذ أضعاف ما أعطت!
