وتتفاوت هذه الدراسات ما بين مناقشة مناهج النقد الأدبي المصري المعاصر وإبداعات جيل الأربعينات ومدى المعاناة التي لونت مواقفه وثقافته في مرحلتي عبد الناصر والسادات.
ويتوقف عند عطر الذكريات في صالون توفيق الحكيم حيث أتيحت للمؤلف صحبة ودراسة ومناقشة توفيق الحكيم وحسين فوزي وذكي نجيب محمود ولويس عوض ونجيب محفوظ ويوسف إدريس وعبد الرحمن الشرقاوي وإحسان عبد القدوس وغيرهم.
