هذه الدراسات النقدية الجديدة عن فنية ودلالات وجماليات القصة القصيرة المصرية المعاصرة وتحولاتها في العقدين الأخيرين من الألفية الثانة والثالثة، تتويج واكتمال لمشروع نقدي منهجي بدأه الكاتب منذ أواخر الستينيات عندما قدم أول دراسة نقدية لكلية التحولات في الخطاب القصصي لرموز جيل الستينيات في اتصال وتجاوز لأجيال الرواد تيمور ولاشين ويحيى حقي ومحمود البدوي وسعد مكاوي ويوسف الشاروني وإدوارد الخراط ويوسف إدريس لحد ما.
في كتاب (البحث عن طريق جديد للقصة القصيرة المصرية صدر عام 1971 عن الهيئة) وقد تلاه كتاب (مقدمة في القصة القصيرة المصرية 1991) ينحو نحو التنظير النقدي والبنائي الجمالي لظاهرة تجديد وصعود الخطاب القصصي المصري بعد نكسة 1967، كذلك كتاب (مراجعة في الرواية والقصة) 1994، ليقدم الكاتب بذلك دليلاً على التحام مسار قصتنا القصيرة بتحولات السياسة والمجتمع والإحتلال الإنجليزي عبر نصف قرن.
