تدور احداث الرواية عن ثلاثة من الشباب : ناقد أدبي ، وشاعر ، ورسام كانت لهم طموحات كبيرة في تغيير الواقع المأساوي وبناء عالم جميل ينتفي فيه العسف والظلم والجور ؛ لكن طموحاتهم تلك ترتطم بصخرة الواقع المرير وجور السلطات فيضطر الناقد الى الهرب خارج البلاد بعد اعتقال وتعذيب طالاه ، تبعه الشاعر الذي تهجس متابعة السلطات له فهرب ونيتها في تحطيمه ، أما الرسام فقادته خيبة الامل الى الانتحار غرقاً في الفرات .... تجري احداث الرواية ابان فترة التسعينات من القرن العشرين حيث الحصار الدولي الجائر على العراق والحياة المأساوية التي عاشها العراقيون . رواية تكاد تكون وثيقة ادانة تاريخية لما جرى لبلد كتب عليه ان يتحطم بقرارات دولية .
