قُدّمت الرواية بأسلوب وبرمزية فائقة عن الجزائر في عهد الاستعمار الفرنسي والمقاومة الوطنية، والتي كان فيها من يدّعي الوطنية وبغطاء ديني بينما له صلاته الاستخبارية بالاستعمار أو على الأقل له مصالحه معهم، كما هو الحال في كل الشعوب، وعن الجانب الاجتماعي الذي تمثل في بطل الملاكمة علي الغرناطي وأخيه بشير، وكلاهما تبناهما شيخ الطريقة التيجانية عبدالعزيز بناني، ونشأتهما في كنف العائلة التي تسكن في حي باب الواد بتلك الظروف ليجد نفسه ملاكمًا موهوبًا شهيرًا حاز على العديد من الجوائز، وفجأةً وهو في غمرة عطائه الرياضي يعتزل الملاكمة وينعزل بملء إرادته عن الناس دون أن يمنى بهزيمة منكرة داخل الحلبة، فسعت صحيفة اللوسوار لإجراء حوار صحفي معه، وأن يكون لها سبق النشر عنه وعن أسباب ابتعاده عن الملاكمة؛ ولا سيما مع صعوبة الوصول إليه وقبوله للحوار، وهنا ظهر دور انتهازية الصحافة والصحفيين والقائمين عليها وكيف توظف مهمتها توظيفًا غير وطنيٍّ بغطاءٍ مهنيٍّ وهو ما تطرقت إليه هذه الرواية من خلال الصحفية المتدربة عبلة الوغليسي التي تحملت مشقة المهمة بصبر وجلد لتقدم شخصية علي الغرناطي وتبرز عبر لقائها الصحفي معه عدة جوانب إنسانية واجتماعية ومهنية ووطنية عنه.
