وضع هذا الكتاب ونظم كي يبدو كرحلة ضمن جغرافية الأزتك وعلاقتهم بالكون ومجتمعهم الذي نظم الحياة في المدينة ، حيث عمل الأطفال والفتية والمحاربون والتجار ورجال الدين والحكام والفنانون معاً لإرساء حياة هانئة متوازنة يسودها تقديس الآلهة ، فقد ركز المؤلف على إعطاء القارئ صورة شاملة عبر المساحات الجغرافية والخيال الجغرافي لشعب الأزتك . كما ركز أيضاً على علم الكونيات والتي تتمثل في تخيلات الشجرة الكونية ومحور الأركان الأربعة ، وهناك أيضاً دورة الحياة البشرية ، خاصة أساليب التعليم التي خضع لها أطفال الأزتك كي يصبحوا مواطنين أكفاء نافعين ، فقد ساعد هذا الكتاب في تركيز الاهتمام البشري على شعب الأزتك ما يسمح للقارئ بأن يقدره ويفهمه ، وأن يوجه انتقادات بناءة لإبداعات هذا الشعب وقوته التدميرية ومشكلاته ونقاط ضعفه وقدراته الفائقة ومواهبه .
