كوروساوا، إمبراطور السينما اليابانية وشاعرها الأكبر دون منازع، يترك لنا في «عَرَق الضفدع» ما يُشبه سيرة ذاتية، وأسرار أفلامه اللاحقة، فالكتابة عنده غموض ياباني، تذكّره بالضفدع المتروك في علبة محاطة بداخلها بالمرايا التي تصوّر له تشوّهات صوره، وتعددها، فيُفرز العَرَق الذي يتحوّل إلى نقيع مغلي، يساعد على مداواة الجروح والحروق. المرايا كثيرة من حول هذا المخرج الإمبراطور الذي وقف في مواجهة «سوني - هيتاشي - سانيو - لانسر - مازدا - كاسيو»، وكل تلك القائمة الكبيرة من الماركات التجارية التي تعتصر ذاكرة الإنسان المعاصر، فتخنقه، ولا ينزّ منه عَرَق يجدي، أو ينفع. من الكتاب: الزلزال الكبير الذي ضرب «كانتوسكو » ترك أثراً بالغاً في حياتي كلها. لم أعِ قدارت القوى الظلامية للطبيعة فحسب، فقد انكشفت لي - أيضاً - جوانب غير جلية في الروح الإنسانية. لقد غيّر الزلزال الكثير من الحياة حولي. الشارع القريب من «أدغوفا» والذي كان يمر منه "الترامواي" استوى هو وموجوداته بالأرض. وظهرت جزر صغيرة في مجرى النهر. في حارتنا لم يك هناك تدمير، لكن معظم المنازل قد سويت على جانبي الطريق وغرقت «أدغوفا» بغيوم من الغبار، وكل شيء كان يبدو غريباً، فالشمس لا تجدي نفعاً وسط هذه الأغبرة، حلّ الظلام الكلي، وتحوّل الناس إلى أشباح، خرجت لتوّها من الجحيم.
