في رحلة عمره علي حسين خلف، عرف عشرات العواصم والمدن، لذلك فجميع أمكنته هي استقطاع في ذاكرة غير مشبعة بالمكان الواحد... وانتماؤه فلسطين وفلسطين امتداده حتى الكنعانيين، لكنه لم يلمس من جنّة الوطن، سوى ذكريات طفلية غائمة عن قرية قومية ومدينة بيسان... امتدت بطيفها حتى لامست حدود خياله، أترعته فغدا يتحدث عن طيور جنّةٍ بلا جنّة، وعن مواطنٍ دون وطن، وعن نورسٍ ذات دموعه في ملوحة الماء وتقوس جسده كطريدة أنهكها وقع السهم.
علي حسين خلف قصصٌ تحكي واقعاً عربياً معاشاً، حدوده الزمن ومكانه الأزل، وتحكي: عربياً وحده كان بلا ظل، خلفه سطح سفينة... وأمامه الماء، وهو يبحث في الرمل عن الرمل، في البحر عن الماء، وفي السماء عن نجمة خضراء، انحنى حين سقط سقف السماء على ظهره... حينها صاح بأعلى صوته، امنحنا يا رب، خبز التيه، ماء القربة، تمر الحصار، لنصل معك إلى الأرض المقدسة، وترخي جباهنا على طينها الطهور ونصلي، نصلي حتى الموت!
