هذا الكتاب الذي بين يديك هو حصيلة عمر قضاه المؤلف "عفيف النابلسي" في هذا الفن وهو يقرأ القصة ويلقيها للناس ويعاودها لملاحتها وصباحتها حيث لم يذهب فيه مذاهب أهل الجنون وهو صفحات اعتصرها فكر المؤلف وهذبها قلمه التزاماً بالأدب الملتزم الذي ينهجه واعتصاماً بالفضل الذي يسلكه واختصره اختصاراً غير مخل وأورده متناسباً مع أهل العلم والفضل وأهل الذوق والنبل وذكر فيه من الأخلاقيات ما يحلقه بأدب الذوق وضبط ريشة قلمه عن كثير من الهفوات فكان قطعة أدبية وقصة أخلاقية ومدرسة فكرية ولطائف نورانية واعتمد فيه علة الكثير من الطرائف غير المذكورة في كتب أخرى التقطها من يوميات مراءته حيث أخذ من الجرائد اليومية والمجلات الأسبوعية وفيها من الفوائد ما فيها.
كما لم يخل كتابه هذا من قصة تركها قلم الكتاب سهواً أو عمداً ومن قاعدة فكرية لم تكن في عصرهم لو لم تمر في مصرهم فكان جامعاً للشتات ومؤرخاً للحادثات وتناول أمورا عقائدية وأخلاقية غير مألوفة في أزمنة مضت وربما كان الزمن لا يتحملها التزاماً بمواقف الحكم والحكومات حيث أتيحت للمؤلف فرصة لم تكن متاحة لمن كتب ولو كان له هوىً موافق لهوة أو أخلاق إشراقية موافقة لأخلاقه.
