كنا نفرح "بصندوق الدنيا" ونحن أطفال... نكون فى لعبنا وصخبنا فيلمح أحدنا "الصندوق" مقبلا من بعيد فيلقى ما بيده من "كرة" أو نحوها ويطلقها صيحة مجلجلة ويذهب يعدو متوثبا ونحن فى أثره, ونتعلق بثياب الرجل أو مرقعته على الأصح, فما هى بثياب إلا على المجاز, فهذا ممسك بكمه, وذلك بحزامه, وآخر يده على الصندوق, وهو سائر وظهره منحن تحت حمله, ولحيته الكثة الغبراء مثنية على صدره, ونحن نتلاغط حوله ونتوثب, حتى يصير بنا إلى الظل, فيضع "الدكه" الخشبية على الأرض فنكون فوقها نتزاحم ونتدافع ونتصايح ونتشاتم قبل أن تستقر على أرجلها, والرجل ساكن الطائر لا يعبأ بنا ولا يولينا نظرة ولايحفل من بقى منا على "دكته" ومن زحزح عنها فوقع على الأرض فقام يلعن ويسب او يبكى ويتوجع, أو يمضى إلى الحائط فيلصق به كتفه ويعمل يده فى عينه.
ويخلع الرجل الحوامل عن كتفه ويقيمها أمامه ويرفع "الصندوق" ويحطه عليها, فبزحف نحن "بالدكة" إليه وندنى وجوهنا من العيون الزجاجية الكبيرة, وننظر وننتظر. فإن صاحبنا لا يعجل, ويطول بنا النظر إلى لاشئ. والانتظار على غير جدوى, فنرتد برءوسنا عن عيون الصندوق, ونرفع إليه وجوهنا الصغيرة, فيبتسم ويبسط كفا كالرغيف ويقول "هاتوا أولا" فتندفع الأيدى إلى الجيوب تبحث عن الملاليم وانصافها فتفوز بها أو تخطئها, فتبيض وجوه وتسود وجوه وتلمع عيون وتنطفئ عيون.
