تدور رواية «صراع مع الزمن» حول معركة داخلية يخوضها الراوي مع ذاكرته ووعيه، حيث يتداخل الكابوس بالواقع، ويصبح الزمن عنصرًا ضاغطًا يعيد إحياء الذنب لا بوصفه فعلًا مُرتكبًا، بل احتمالًا كان ممكنًا. تبدأ الأحداث بحلم صادم يوهم البطل بأنه قتل والده، ورغم انكشاف الحقيقة لاحقًا، يظل أثر الحلم عالقًا، كاشفًا هشاشة الحد الفاصل بين الفكرة والفعل، وبين الماضي والحاضر.
تنتقل الرواية تدريجيًا من الرعب النفسي إلى السيرة الذاتية، إذ يعود السارد إلى طفولته ونشأته في البادية، مستعرضًا محطات الذاكرة الأولى، وبدايات تشكّل الخوف والقلق، وكيف راكم الزمن داخله شعورًا ثقيلًا بالذنب. يتضح أن الزمن لا يمحو الآثام، بل يعيد تشكيلها، وأن بعض الذنوب لا تحتاج إلى أن تُرتكب كي تستمر في مطاردة أصحابها.
الرواية تأمل عميق في النفس البشرية، وفي صراعها مع الزمن، حيث تتحول الأفكار المظلمة والاحتمالات المؤجلة إلى عبءٍ يفوق في قسوته الجريمة نفسها.
