"خليجي في باريس" عنوان يختصر الرواية، وكان يفترض أن توسم به، ولكن "صبرا" معشوقة بطل الرواية أبت إلا أن تحمل الرواية اسمها، لمكانتها في قلب بطلها، أو لارتباط اسمها بأحداث أليمة تركت بصماتها السوداء على تاريخ حقبة أليمة في زمن العرب الرديء.
تتشابك في أحداث هذه الرواية الجوانب الإنسانية والعاطفية والخلقية والدينية السائدة في المنطقة العربية وتظهر تأثر هذه الجوانب بالقيم الغربية وتفاعلاتها معها، كما تحلل انعكاسات الحرب الأهلية اللبنانية، وحرب الخليج الثانية على أهل البلاد، وعقائدهم، ونظرتهم إلى الغرب والغربيين، وتبيَّن أثر الوفرة المادية في حياة الناس وسلوكهم وأخلاقهم وما يمكن ان تؤول إليه أحوالهم إذا ما رقَّ دينهم وضعفت أخلاقهم.
وقد وفق الكاتب بتصوير الأحداث، بحيث يشعر القارئ أنه يعيش مع أبطال الرواية، يفرح لفرحهم، ويتألم لألمهم. كما أحسن بتضمين روايته كثيراً من الحكم والأمثال والأشعار بطريقة جذّابة لا تخلُّ بسياق الرواية، ما جعلها قطعة أدبية خالدة تصلح للتدريس، وتمتع بأسلوبها كما تشد بأحداثها.
