علاوة على أن المسجد مكان للصلاة والعبادة، فهو أفضل بقعة على الأرض وأطهرها وأحب الأماكن إلى الله مساجدها. فهو مركزاً للتوعية دائمة، وتوجيه ديني وفكري وتعليمي ومعنوي، وروحي، وأخلاقي وتربوي وادبي وإجتماعي وعسكري، وتآخي وتساوي، فيستقبل المسلم دون تفريق بين عرق وعرق، أو جنس وجنس، أو لون ولون.
كما أزال فوارق الأجناس، والألوان والأوطان، والرتب، والدرجات، فالناس سواسية كأسنان المشط لا فرق بين عربي ولا أعجمي إلا بالتقوى. وتلك التوعية وذلك التوجيه من أهدافها أن تخرج الناس من الظلمات إلى النور.
وكان المسجد النبوي مهبط الوحي، حيث هبط على الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم بعد الهجرة يوحي له ما يوحى والمسجد، هو المدرسة، والمعهد والجامعة، ففيه وضعت أسس الثقافة الإسلاميَة من علوم سنة وشريعة وعلوم لسان وسنن أكوان.
وفي هذا الكتاب دراسة للمقاصد الأساسية للمساجد التي تكمن في أداء الشعائر الدينية وتلقي العلم إلى جانب التجمع وتعود الحياة الإجتماعية ولكن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إستخدم المسجد لأغراض اخرى عند الحاجة وذلك لأمرين.
الأمر الأول: بيان أن الدين تشريع متكامل، وأن أي نشاط إجتماعي هو نشاط ديني، أو ينبغي أن يستمد أصالته وهديه من الدين الذي يرمز إليه المسجد.
والأمر الثاني: أن المجتمع الإسلامي في عهده الأول كان مجتمعاً بسيطاً ومحدود الموارد، وما كانت هنالك حاجة إلى إنشاء دور خاصة للأنشطة الأخرى.
لهذا يعوض الكاتب في بعض أنواع الأنشطة التي كانت تزاول في المسجد على عهد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، والرسالة التي يتوجه بها المسلم إلى المسلمين.
