لم يكُنِ الليلُ أمرًا عابرًا فـي خيالِ الشعراء، بل كانَ جزءًا مهمًّا من نَصِّهم الشعري، سَواءٌ من باب الـمـَجاز أو الدَّلالة الـمُباشرة؛ غير أنَّ حديثَ الليل عندَ أهل الشعر والأدب حديثٌ طويل، وربَّما ذو شجون؛ فتارةً يكون مصدرَ إلهامٍ وسكُون وطمأنينة، ومحلَّ ترحيب، وتارةً يكون باعِثًا على الألـم جالبًا الشَّكْوى والأنين.
وديوان «مَرايا اللَّيْل» مجموعةٌ شعريَّة تناولت فـي بعض من قصائدِها مُعاناةَ أهل الشام، وما يلقَوْنه فـي دُنْيا النُّزوح واللُّجوء، فضلاً عن مَواضيعَ أخرى جاءَتْ على إيقاعِ الليل.
