إن العضلات التى شيّدت الأهرام والأبراج والمعابد والجسور والسفن، وقارعت السيوف فى الحروب، وركبت الأهوال من أجل الاستكشاف، وحطمت الأرقام القياسية فى الجري والسباحة، وسجلت الأهداف في المباريات، ما كان لها أن تفعل لولا الطاقة التى تستمدها من الطعام، وإن العقول التى أبدعت الإبرة والعجلة والمفتاح وحبة الدواء والهاتف والزراعة المغطاة، وأركبت الإنسان بساط الريح فالطائرة، قبل أن تُسفر له عن الوجه الحقيقى للقمر وأترابه فى درب التبانة، هذه العقول التى تجترح المعجزات كل يوم وهى تحقق مخطوطة الميتاقيزيقا كأنجح ما يكون التحقيق، ما كان لها أن تفلح فى ذلك لولا رصيدها من المادة الرمادية وما تتغذى عليه من طعام.
لهذا، ولكثير غيره، فإن الطعام هو حجر الزاوية فى صرح الحضارة البشرية، البشرية التى ما كان لها أن تستمر وتتكاثر وتزداد نضارة، لولا الطعام وما يضخه فى أصلابها من ماء.
أما بالنسبة لباقى الكائنات، فيكفى بعضها مجدا أنها تُحول طعامها إلى عنبر وحليب، وعسل وطيب ولنا فقط أن نتأمل كيف يصير العشب فى البرية مِسكاً فى دم الغزال.
فهل، بعد كل هذا، يحتاج الطعام إلى شفيع يُدخله جنة الأدب، وهى أقل رحابة من جنانه؟
