يضم هذا المجموعَ الكبير الشامل، كلَّ ما انتهى إلينا من شعرِ أديبٍ عربيٍّ أصيل يمثل فصاحة اللغة وبداوة الديباجة ونصاعتها أبلغ تمثيل، وشاعرٍ إسلامي صدوق يعبر عن عمق الإيمان وسلامة المعتقد ووضوح الرؤية أصرح تعبير، ورائد من رواد الفكر العظماء كان أول مَن وضع النّقط، وأول مَن قَعَّد قواعد النحو، وأول مَن صنَّف في علوم اللغة، ذلك هو أبو الأسود الدؤلي.
وقد تضمن هذا المجموع الموضوعات الآتية: 1-شعر أبي الأسود: برواية السكري أبي سعيد وشرحه، 2-تخريج هذا الشعر في المصادر والمراجع العربية، 3-شعر أبي الأسود: برواية ابن جني وشرحه، 4-المستدرك على شعر أبي الأسود: وقد جاء في قسمين، ضم في الأول شعره الثابت النسبة أي الذي لم ينسب لغيره، وضم الثاني شعره المشكوك المردَّد بينه وبين غيره من الشعراء، 5-الملاحق، وهي ثلاثة: أ-ما بقي من كتاب الأصمعي المفقود الذي يضمُّ شعر أبي الأسود، ب-ما بقي من كتاب المدائني المفقود في أخبار أبي الأسود، ج-ما روي عن أبي عبيدة عن كتابه "الشعر والشعراء" ممّا يخص أبا الأسود.
