الساعة في بداية ابتكارها عندما كانت تعتمد في جوهرها على حركة التروس، هي عمل بديع ومُفيد، بِفَضْل التناغم والعبقرية في تجميع حركة التروس المختلفة في أقطارها ودِقة وقوة أسنانها وسرعة دورانها، تتعاون ولا تتصادم، ولا يَنعزل كلُ ترس بحركته وطاقته.
لو كانت الساعة بنفس التركيب العَبْقري؛ ثم نُزِع من التروس أسنانها، وانعزلت وأصبحت مجرد دوائر ملساء تدور حول محورها الخاص؛ ما هي النتيجة؟
بعض الدوائر حسب حظها سوف تدور حول محور ثري ونَشِط، وأخرى سوف تدور حسب حظها بطيئة وفقيرة وهي أقرب للسكون، وتتفاوت الحياة داخل الساعة، فتصبح حركة ونشاط بلا ثمرة، ومظهر حياة بلا حياة حقيقية، ولا يمكن أنْ تُسمَّى ساعة ولا يَحْصل منها وظيفة.
كون دائرة تحتوي فردًا لو أسْقطنا اليوم هذا الوصْف على مجتمعنا، لوجدناه مطابقا لحال تلك الساعة ذات التروس الملساء، يعيش الناس في دوائر بلا أسنان، قد تواحدًا يمسك بهاتف ويعيش حياته داخل تلك الشاشة، قد تكون دائرة تحتوي على أسرة تعيش حياتها داخل كوكبها المعزول، تصب كل جهدها في نفسها، شعار حالها "ما يحتاجه البيت يحرم على الجامع"، وكلٌ مشغولٌ بنفسه.
