ولد الشاعر في مدينة بغداد عام 1955م. بدأ عام 1974 العمل في الصحف والمجلات العراقية. وقبل خروجه من العراق عام 1981م أصدر اول مجموعة شعرية له تحت مسمى "ثياب من الثلج" وذلك عام 1978م.أكمل دراسته العليا في إيطاليا وقرر الإقامة فيها حيث يعمل الى الان أستاذا في قسم الدراسات الآسيوية (جامعة نابولي للدراسات "الشرقية").

إن التجربة التي أحاطت كتابة هذه المجموعة الشعرية قد انحصرت في تأمل الذات ومحاورتها عند عزلتها أو تفردها في ترحالها الدائم المتشبث بجذور الزمكانية التي لا تكف ان تكون ذكرى يصعب استرجاعها وإعادة تركيب خياراتها من جديد وليس صعبا عليَّ أن القول إن هذه القصائد التي استمدت من بحر الطويل قوامها اللغوي لم تقف كثيرا عند عراك الحداثة الشاغل للكثيرين الذين يرون في الخروج على التراث طريقا نحو حداثة عصرية بالرغم من أن الحداثة في ثوبها الأوروبي لا تعرف لها وجودا في مجتمعاتنا العربية ولا يمكن أن تكون منحصرة في شكل الكتابة نظما كان أو نثرا. فكل شيء لا يمت صلة بحياتنا اليومية لا يستحق التوقف لديه فالكتابة فضاء يرتقي اليه المبدعون في كل عصر بغية التجديد في صياغة حياة جديدة والبحث عن سبل راديكالية في إعادة تقييم الماضي وفتح آفاق المستقبل وليس مكانا لاجترار تجارب الاخرين دون النظر الى ماضينا ونفض ما عليه من غبار.
