نور الدين فرح كاتب صومالي معاصر يكتب الإنجليزية. اهتم بتحرير المرأة في فترة ما بعد الاستقلال. ولد في الصومال عام 1945 وكتب روايته الأولى عام 1970 بعنوان "من ضلع معوج" عن فتاة من قبيلة بدائية فرت من زيجة مرتبة لرجل أكبر منها سناً بكثير. كتب ثلاثيتين، وتُعد روايته "خرائط" (الرواية الأولى ضمن ثلاثيته الثانية – دماء في الشمس – هي أهم رواياته بإجماع النقاد، كما أنها أشهر أعماله، وكتبها عام 1986). وعاش طويلاً في المنفى (22 عاماً) خشية رد فعل الحكومة على كتاباته الجريئة، ثم عاد إلى الصومال عام 1996، بعد أن أمضى منفاه في الولايات المتحدة وألمانيا وإيطااليا والسودان وغامبيا والهند ونيجيريا. حصل نور الدين فرح على جائزة نيوستاد الأدبية عن مجمل أعماله عام 1998 (وهي جائزة تُمنح كل سنتين وتُعد ثاني أهم جائزة أدبية في العالم بعد نوبل).

"خرائط" الرواية الأولى ضمن ثلاثية "دماء في الشمس"، والتي تتضمن "هدايا" و"أسرار" والسرد فيها يتنوع بين ضمير المخاطب والمتكلم والغائب تنوعا لا يفقد الرواية تماسكها ويتراوح في الزمن بين الحاضر والماضي ، كان عسكر قد فقد والده قبل أن يولد في الحرب الدموية التي دارت بين الصومال وأثيوبيا، وتموت أمه عند ولادته. ويعود الطفل إلى "مصرا" مفارقات كثيرة يحياها الفتى وهو ينتقل بين أجواء متناقضة ليتكيف مع حياة جديدة في كنف خاله وزوجته المثقفين فتتسع مساحة أسئلته، ويحاول البحث عن خريطته الذهنية لذاته وللحدود التي تفصله عن "مصرا"، في الوقت الذي يتمحور اهتمامه حول خريطة الصومال وأفريقيا وحدودهما وكيف اتسعت أوروبا على حسابها في إشارة لأزمة الهوية التي يحاول تحديدها وفهمها.
