في زمان ليس ببعيد كان هنالك فتى اسمه خالد، صغير القامة ذو العشر سنوات، حسن الخلق وأسمر البشرة، عائلته مكونة من الأب والأم وأربعة إخوان وأختين، اعتقد الأبوان أن هذا الفتى قبل مولده خالٍ من أي مرض وسيكون مصدر رزق لهم، بصراحة كان مصدر رزقهم ولكنه يعاني من مشاكل في النطق، ومنذ صغره ينطق بحرف واحد وهو حرف (أ) فقط.
عندما كان خالد يريد شيئا ما ولو كان بسيطا كانت عائلته تجد صعوبة في فهم رغبته أو ما يريد، كانوا دائما لا يعرفون ما يريد إلا بعد أن يأخذ ورقةً وقلمَ رصاص ليكتب أو يرسم حاجته، بسبب التأتأة التي كان يجدها في لسانه وتمنعه من التحدّث بشكل سليم، وبدون هذه الطريقة لم يكن خالد يستطيع التعبير عن رغبته أو ما يحتاج. وفي بعض الأحيان يكتشفون ما أراد من رسمه وتارة لا.
