يدرج هذا الكتاب تحت تصنيف (تعليم الكتابة الإبداعية)، ويتكون من جزأين، جزء معنون ب"قوة المعرفة" ويعنى بتقديم معرفة نظرية عن عناصر الرواية ومكوناتها وأهم تقنياتها، مدعمة بأمثلة عليها من روايات عربية وعالمية مع بعض التمارين. وجزء معنون ب"الكتابة بثقة"، انطلاقا من أن المعرفة هي قوة، والثقة تأتي باكتسابها، ويقدم وصفة عملية لكتابة الرواية بدءا من العثور على الأفكار والتخطيط لها، إلى كيفية اختيار نهاية جيدة، مرورا ببعض المشاكل التي تعرقل سلاسة العملية وحلولها مثل حبسة الكاتب.
يهدف الكتاب إلى تقديم معرفة أكاديمية بأسلوب مبسط عن تقنيات السرد للكاتب الناشئ، وكذلك إلى تقديم خطوات عملية لكتابة الرواية. لهذا يحمل طابعا مزيجا بين الأكاديمي والتعليمي، إيمانا بأن الكاتب يجب أن يحمل أولا قدرا من الوعي والثقافة المناسبة بتقنيات الكتابة، وليس مجرد ممارستها من خلال اختزالها إلى خطوات عملية جاهزة. وأن هذا الوعي يشكل فارقا مهما في المنتوج النهائي للكتابة، ويظهر أثره عند المقارنة بين إنتاج كاتب يمتلك هذا الوعي الفني، وآخر لا يمتلكه.
