رائد الكتابة الساخرة في الصحافة العربية، حيث شارك في تحرير وتأسيس عدد كبير من الصحف و المجلات العربية في مصر و خارجها، ورأس تحرير مجلة صباح الخير المصرية في الستينات ورفع توزيعها إلى معدلات غير مسبوقة.
شارك في الحياة السياسية بفاعلية في عهد الرئيس جمال عبد الناصر و سجن بتهمة غير محددة، واتهمَ بالاشتراك في محاولة انقلابية على الرئيس أنور السادات و تمت إدانته وسجن. أصدر ورأس تحرير مجلة 23 يوليو في من رائد الكتابة الساخرة في الصحافة العربية، حيث شارك في تحرير وتأسيس عدد كبير من الصحف و المجلات العربية في مصر و خارجها، ورأس تحرير مجلة صباح الخير المصرية في الستينات ورفع توزيعها إلى معدلات غير مسبوقة.
شارك في الحياة السياسية بفاعلية في عهد الرئيس جمال عبد الناصر و سجن بتهمة غير محددة، واتهمَ بالاشتراك في محاولة انقلابية على الرئيس أنور السادات و تمت إدانته وسجن. أصدر ورأس تحرير مجلة 23 يوليو في منفاه بلندن وحققت المجلة معدلات توزيع مرتفعة في العالم العربي، وعاد إلى مصر من منفاه الاختياري سنة 1982م بعد اغتيال السادات واستقبله الرئيس مبارك.
ربطته صلات قوية بعدد من الزعماء العرب مثل قائد الثورة الليبية معمر القذافي والرئيس العراقي السابق صدام حسين. اعتزل العمل الصحفي والحياة العامة سنة 2006م بسبب المرض، وتوفي في 4 مايو 2010.
