إن كتاب جامع الثناء على الله للشيخ بن إسماعيل النبهاني في مضمونه يحمل بحق عنوانه، لكثرة الثناء والدعاء في هذا الفن من أقطابه في صفحاته. وهو بشكل عام مرتب على مقدمة وسبعة أوراد أما المقدمة فتشتمل على أربعة فصول تضمن الأول منها أربعون حديثاً قدسياً جاء فيه ثناء الله على نفسه بما هو أهله جل جلاله.
أما الثاني فاشتمل على أربعين حديثاً في ثناء النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم على الله تعالى بما يليق به من الكمالات. وفي حين اشتمل الثالث على كلام أربعين ولياً من أكابر العارفين في توحيد الله تعالى والثناء عليه عزّ وجل. أما الفصل الرابع وهو الأخير فاحتوى على فهرست الأوراد السبعة ونسبة ما فيها من ثناء الأولياء إليهم، هذا وقد ابتدأ كل ورد منها ببعض الآيات القرآنية واتبعت بما تيسر من الأذكار والدعوات النبوية؛ وكذلك بما ورد عن الأولياء العارفين من الدعاء والثناء على الله تعالى.
