مفهوم «توسل» را بیان كرده و سابقه تاریخی اعتقاد به آن را در باورهای جاهلیت شرح میدهد. یكی از بزرگترین نقاط تفاوت اهل سنت با شیعیان، اعتقاد به توسل و ارجاع و استغاثه به ائمه و اولیاء در گذشته برای وساطت به درگاه خداوند متعال جهت بخشش گناهان است و شیعه تا جایی در این امر پیش رفته كه دهها دعا و مناجات واجب و مستحب در این مورد جعل كرده است. نویسنده این كتاب میكوشد تا پیشینه تاریخی این اندیشه را از دوران جاهلیت بیرون آورد و با استعانت از آیات قرآن مجید، بطلان آن را به اثبات رساند تا نشان دهد كه یكی از اهداف اسلام، برچیدن بساط شرك و چندخدایی و توسل بوده است. وی در آغاز، چگونگیِ ورودِ اعتقاد به بت و معبودهای مصنوع به جزیرة العرب را شرح داده و انواع خدایان عربِ جاهلی را معرفی میكند. آنگاه به ظهور اسلام و تأثیری میپردازد كه اندیشه توحیدی آن، بر باورهای جاهلی داشت. او با اشاره به آموزههای اصیل و صریح اسلام نشان میدهد كه مفهوم توحید چیست و اعمال شركآلود چگونه باعث محوِ حسنات میشوند.
