لقد دفعني إلى كتابة هذا الكتاب مالمسته من شغف لدى العديد من المهتمين بمعرفة الحساب الفلكي خصوصاً فيما يتعلق في طريقة تقويم الكواكب وبيان حركاتها ومواضعها في السماء فقلما تطرقت المؤلفات العربية الحديثة إليه ،وقد يرجع سبب ذلك باعتقادي إلى وفرة برامج الكمبيوتر التي تمنح وتتيح معرفة نتائج تلك الحسابات بدقة ويسر ،وكذلك وفرة التقاويم الفلكية المحسوبة حتى لعشرات السنين دون تكبد عناء الحسابات الفلكية المطولة وإحتمالية الوقوع في الخطأ .
ولقد حرصت كل الحرص على التسهيل والإختصار دون الإخلال بقدر المستطاع بدقة النتائج فحسبت العناصر المدارية للشمس والقمر وجملة الكواكب وجعلتها في جداول محسوبة لسنين فائتة وأخرى قادمة ،وكذلك وضعت الجداول المصححة لمواقع ألمـع نجوم السماء ،وانتقيت العلاقات الرياضية المناسبة مستعيناً في ذلك بمصادر إجنبية وعربية معتبرة ومعروفة كما أحسبها .
فهذا الكتاب المتواضع الذي بين أيدينا يحدثنا بلغة الأرقام والعلاقات الرياضية التي تصف وتوضح لنا حركة الأجرام السماوية ومواقعها في صفحة السماء ودرجة مطالعها وميولها في أفلاكها وكذلك يتيح لنا معرفة مواقيت شروقها وغروبها وتوسطها في كل بلد من البلدان بالحساب الدقيق بعد أن يعرفنا على مفهوم الكرة السماوية وقياس دوائرها ،وأتمنى أن أكون قد وفقت في عرض ذلك .
