فواز حداد كاتب سوري من مواليد دمشق، حائز على إجازه في الحقوق من جامعة دمشق. كتب القصة القصيرة و المسرح و الرواية، لكنه لم ينشر أياً منها حتى سنة 1991. شارك كمُحكِّم في مسابقة حنا مينه للرواية، ومسابقة المزرعة للرواية في السويداء. كذلك في الإعداد لموسوعة "رواية اسمها سورية".
تفرّغ للعمل الروائي كلياً في عام 1998 ,رُشِّح عن رواية المترجم الخائن لل الجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية "بوكر" القائمة القصيرة لعام 2009 ورُشِّحت روايته "جنود الله" لجائزة البوكر القائمة الطويلة لعام 2010، وترجمت إلى الألمانية تحت عنوان "سماء الله الدامية" عن دار نشر أوفباو. ورُشِّح أيضاً لجائزة روكرت الألمانية لعام 2013 عن الرواية نفسها.

همّت بالكلام، ربما لتبرّر ما لا يمكن الإفصاح عنه، بعد أن باحت به؛ سعادتها في مكان آخر، لم تشأ الإفصاح أكثر.
أنا أيضاً، لم أرد سماع المزيد، إذا كان صحيحاً، يستحيل إقناعها بالعكس، في الحقيقة تطيرت، لا أجهل كم يجرّ الحب من مصائب.
لحظتها، أدركت أنني لم أكن أريد إنقاذ صاروف فقط، بل إنقاذ ما أحمله نحوها من صداقة ومحبة، وكنت مهدّداً بفقدانهما معاً، رثيت له، وخفت عليها، واستعظمت خسارتي لهما، لا يمكنني إغفال صلتي القوية بهما.
قالت عندما لاحظت صمتي: "انت الوحيد الذي أريد تفهم ما أقدمت عليه"، لم تكن لدي أية رغبة في تفهمه، لئلا أغفره لها، لم أعلّق، فقالت: "لن يتغير شيء بيننا، أليس كذلك؟"، لم أقل شيئاً، فقالت، وكانت ترجوني، "أنا مصرة"، فأدركت أن صداقتنا انتهت، قلت: "لا، كوني على ثقة"، "عدني"، كنت حزيناً، في منتهى الحزن عند الوداع تُطلق أكثر الوعود حرارة وكذباً، بينما لا يملك كل منا ما يعد به الآخر.
