ولد الفيلسوف الشيخ ميثم بن علي بن ميثم البحراني في أم الحصم بالقرب من الماحوز وتوفي في العام 1299م، وكانت الماحوز منطقة علمية وسابقة لوجود المنامة.
تميز الشيخ ميثم عن غيره بأنه حظي باحترام الفقهاء والفلاسفة في آن واحد. فهو فقيه متبحر في الدين وأصوله وفروعه، وكان في الوقت ذاته فيلسوفا وحكيما مطلعا على الفلسفة اليونانية من مصادرها الأساسية ومطورا للفلسفة الإسلامية. فالفلسفة الإسلامية لدى الشيخ ميثم ولد الفيلسوف الشيخ ميثم بن علي بن ميثم البحراني في أم الحصم بالقرب من الماحوز وتوفي في العام 1299م، وكانت الماحوز منطقة علمية وسابقة لوجود المنامة.
تميز الشيخ ميثم عن غيره بأنه حظي باحترام الفقهاء والفلاسفة في آن واحد. فهو فقيه متبحر في الدين وأصوله وفروعه، وكان في الوقت ذاته فيلسوفا وحكيما مطلعا على الفلسفة اليونانية من مصادرها الأساسية ومطورا للفلسفة الإسلامية. فالفلسفة الإسلامية لدى الشيخ ميثم تضمنت علمه بالمنطق والرياضيات وعلم السياسة المتخصص في رعاية مصالح الناس الدنيوية.
قائمة المؤلفات:
1- شرح نهج البلاغة (المعرفة العامة) ثلاثة شروح: الكبير منها يقع في عدة مجلدات، وقد وصفه المختصون بالكتاب القيم الرائع.
2- وفي علم الكلام له ستة مؤلفات، وطبع بعضها.
3- في الفلسفة أربعة كتب.
4- في علم البلاغة له كتابان.
5- ومتنوع كتاب واحد وهو «آداب الحديث» وهو مردد بين الأخلاق أو علم الحديث لأن المصدر الذي ذكره لم يشر إلى موضوعه
