أليس هو ذكريات أو مذكرات سجني؟ بلى، فلا غرابة أن يبقى سجيناً هذا الزمن الطويل!
ألفته وأنا أعزب، ويصدر بعد أن تزوجت غير واحدة، وقد أنجبت لي ثلاث ممن تزوجتهم أولاداً بلغ عددهم عدد أبناء سيدنا يعقوب عليه السلام.
ألفته وأنا شاب عزب، وأنشره وأنا أب لاثني عشر، بل جد كثير من الأحفاد.
ألفته وأنا شاب قوي مقدام، وأطبعه وأنا في قبضة الشيخوخة الفانية والأوجاع والأسقام الحاطمة.
ألفته وأنا حاد البطر، وأقدمه للطبع وأنا لا أبطر. ورأيت من الأمانة الأدبية أن أدع الكتاب على حاله كما سبق لي تأليفه, أنا شاب، وألا أغير منه شيئاً بحذف أو إضافة.
فهذا الكتاب ألفه ألأديب الشاب أحمد عبد الغفور عطار، ولا يصح أن يتدخل فيه الشيخ الهرم المريض أحمد عبد الغفور عطار.
"لهذا تركت الكتاب كما ألفه مؤلفه الأديب الشاب، وعليه وحده تقع تبعة التأليف.
إن هذا الكتاب كتاب ذكريات يصور فترة من حياتي عشتها خلف أبواب متينة مغلقة، ووراء جدار السدود، فليبق بقاء الذكريات دون التصرف فيه بنقص أو زيادة أو زخرفة".
