الرواية صدرت باللغة الإسبانية عام 2010 وفازت بجائزة الضفة الأخرى المخصصة لأدب أمريكا اللاتينية؛ ومن أجوائها، نقرأ: "كان مساء رياح وبرودة من شهر يناير. عصف ريح الشمال القوية يشوش المشهد باختلاطاته. وفي المدينة، كانت زوابع أوراق الأشجار المتساقطة تشكل حوامات تطفو من رصيف إلى آخر وتلامس حواف الطريق بجلبة جرجرة سُلَّم صول مينور. ماء البحيرة قبالة قصر فاغواس الرئاسي كان مائجاً وقاتماً كلون القهوة بالحليب. تنبعث منه رائحةٌ صفراء، رائحةُ أزهارٍ برية فاسدة ، رائحة أجساد متعرقة متزاحمة.
وفوق المنصة، أنهت الرئيسة بيبيانا سانسون إلقاء كلمتها ورفعت ذراعيها عالياً بحركة انتصارية. كان يكفيها أن تهز ذراعها حتى ينفجر الميدان كله بتصفيق متجدد. إنها السنة الثانية لولايتها، والسنة الأولى التي يُحتفل فيها، بكل أبهة، ب «يوم المساواة بكامل معانيها» وهو اليوم الذي أمر حزب اليسار الايروتيكي (ح.ي.إ) بإدراجه ضمن تقويم أهم أيام البلاد. كان التأثر يعّكر عيني الرئيسة. فكل أولئك الناس الذين ينظرون إليها بحماسة عظيمة، هم السبب في وجودها هناك وشعورِها بأنها مبعث سعادة في العالم. الطاقة التي يبثونها فيها قوية إلى حدٍّ رغبتْ معه في مواصلة الحديث عن الأحلام الجنونية التي تحدّت بها توقعات الكثيرين بأنه لا يمكن لها الوصول إلى الحُكم أبداً، وأنه لا يمكن لها أن ترى، مثلما تفعل الآن، نتيجة الجرأة والجهد العظيم الذي ثابرت عليه مع رفيقاتها في حزب اليسار الإيروتيكي".
