تدور أحداث الرواية في قرية جبلية نائية في فترة الأربعينيات من القرن المنصرم. وأبطال الرواية أناس يحمكهم الجهل والخوف والعصبية القبلية المتأصلة في نفوسهم، والتي توارثوها كأمر حتمي لا مفر منه. وفي ظل الصراع المحتدم بينهم على الدوام لإسباب واهية، تتصاعدة الأحداث وتزيد حدة الصراع الذي لايؤدي لشيٍ حقيقي، سوى لإثبات وجود البعض على حساب الكل.
تنتهي الرواية ببدايات جديدة ثم تبدأ من جديد في أوائل القرن الحالي ولكن ... ببدايات قديمة.
