سينكلير لويس: مسرحي وروائي أمريكي، ولد في عام 1885، حصل على شهادة الباكالوريوس من جامعةيال في عام 1908.
نُشرت أولى رواياته «هايك والطائرة» في عام 1912.
وتعبر رواية «بابِت»التي نُشرت في عام 1922 أشهر أعماله.
وفي عام 1926 فاز بجائزو بوليتزر عن روايته «اروسميث»لكنه رفضها.
وفي عام 1930 كان أول أمريكي يفوز بجائزة نوبل للآداب.
توفي في روما عام 1951، حيث نُشرت روايته الأخيرة«عالم واسع» بعد وفاته

يبدو جورج بابِت، سمسار عقارات عمله مزدهر، ورجلٌ ناجحٌ اجتماعيًا. لديه كل ما يتمناه المرء: صحة، وعائلة، وعمل مربح في مدينة تنمو بسرعة في الغرب الأوسط الأمريكي. يعاني بابت من أرق ناتج عن تزعزع رضاه عن نفسه بسبب الحياة المحدودة التي يعيشها. وتدفعه أزمة شخصية إلى إعادة النظر في قِيَمِهِ فيثور على العادات الاجتماعية ويعرّض سمعته ومكانته الاجتماعية وحياته الزوجية للخطر. تعتبر «بابِت» أفضل رواية للويس، وقد خلقت هذه السخريةمن المشهد الاجتماعي الأمريكي ضجة كبيرة عند نشرها عام 1922. وقد أصبح اسم بابِت مرادفاً لرضى الطبقة الوسطى عن ذاتها.
