تحكي الرواية قصة غرام رومنسية تقع في رحاب جامعة مؤتة، بين الشاب سامر القادم من المفرق شمالا والفتاة الساحرة الجمال صبحية ابنة الكرك ، سامر هو شقيق لتوأمه ساهر وابن للمرأة الفلسطينية الأصل “وهيبة” التي تنكر لها الأقربون وتركوها تواجه مشاق الحياة لوحدها وتربي ولديها اللذين يكبران ويلتحقان بالدراسة الجامعية، ومن ثم ينتقل سامر للعمل في بلدة مؤتة في الكرك ويخوض قصة غرامه، لكن حبل العلاقة ينقطع فجأة بينهما لسبب مجهول، ليدخل سامر على إثرها في حالة من الألم النفسي ترافقت مع حالة الألم التي اكتنفته بعد وفاة أمه .
توحي أحداث القصة بأن أخاه ساهرا مدمن على نوع خطير من المخدرات، ومن ثم يموت سامر فجأة لتحوم الشكوك من قبل أحد الصحفيين بوجود شبهة جنائية تكتنف قصة وفاته، لتذهب الشكوك في اتجاه محير يشير إلى أن القاتل، قد يكون أخاه ساهرا أو الشاب الصيدلاني الذي تزوج محبوبة سامر بعد غيابها المفاجئ عنه .
تحمل الرواية في المقام الأول قيمة فنية، تتجسد في حكاية قصة الحب العذرية بين سامر وصبحية، التي آلت إلى التصرم في النهاية، فضلا عن قيم أخرى يجدها القارئ متناثرة في ثنيّاتها .
