أوائل في السودان، سفر يتناول تاريخ وثقافة السودان. من خلال التوثيق لشخصيات وأماكن وأحداث مختلفة في السودان كان لها السبق في الظهور أو الحدوث،وذلك نظراً لندرة الكتابة حول هذا الموضوع الذي نحسبه هام جدا في حفظ هذا الإرث الثقافي الماتع الذاخر، خاصة ففي سنوات خلت كان أجدادنا يعتمدون على الحفظ، فتجد الواحد منهم يحفظ تاريخ الأحداث والأيام والشهور والسنين، ويشترك في ذلك الرجال والنساء، ولكن اليوم ضعفت ملكة الحفظ بسبب عوامل عديدة منها جناية الأجهزة والوسائل الإعلامية الحديثة التي غيّبت تلك الملكة.
اقتضت طبيعة الكتاب أن يكون وحدة واحدة لصعوبة تصنيفه كفصول سواء من حيث تواريخ الأحداث والأماكن أو تصنيفاتها النوعية، ولكن بذل الكاتب جهدا في جعل مادة الكتاب أن تكون على نسق ترتيبي حسب تواريخها ما أمكن مع تزيلها بحواشي تعريفية قيمة ، بالإضافة إلى ملحق خرائط لحقب مختلفة مر بها السودان كدولة ذات تاريخ تليد وعريق.
لقد انتهج الكاتب منهج البحث العلمي الصارم في جمع معلوماته من مصادرها ومراجعها والوثائق، وزاد عليها الصور لتوكيد معلوماته.الكتاب شيق في موضوعه، أمين في توثيقه، رفيع في لغته، موضوعي في تتابع معلوماته.
