برنابا: اسمه (يوسف) ويلقب ابن الوعظ، وهو لاوي قبرصي الجنسية، وهو خال (مرقس) صاحب الإنجيل فيما يقال، وكان من دعاة النصرانية الأوائل، ويظهر من إنجيله أن له مكانة لدى المسيح عليه السلام، والنصارى يرون أنه من الدعاة الذين لهم أثر ونشاط ظاهر، وكان من أعماله البارزه أنه باع حقله وأتى بقيمته من النقود ووضعها تحت تصرف الدعاة، وحين ادَّعى بولس (شاؤول اليهودي) الدخول في دين المسيح عليه السلام خاف منه الحواريون لما يعلمون من سابق عداوته، فشفع له برنابا عندهم فقبلوه ضمن جماعتهم، ثم اختلف معه بعد فترة من العمل في الدعوة سويا وانفصلا
