هذا الكتاب قصة شائقة لا تخلو من دروس فهي تعرض لنا في تفصيل غير ممل نظرية روسو في التربية ، وهى تعرض علينا صورة طفل سليم متوسط الذكاء ربى في الريف وحيدا وليس في صحبته سوى مدرسه الخاص ، وفي هذا الوسط الذى يربى فيه الطفل لن تفسد طباعه الطبيعية وانما تنمو وتتقدم ، فقد نادى روسو بالمساواة بين الأفراد وامتدح الرجل العادى ورفع من شأنه واعتمد على اثارة خيال الناس وعواطفهم التي كان لا يعبأ بها الكتاب من قبل ، وقد نبهت هذه القصة الأذهان الى التربية وجعلت الكثيرين يهتمون بها ويقبلون على آراء روسو مع ما فيها من غلو وتناقض .
