الحقيقة أن "بودلير" الذي نراه في هذه اليوميات هو "بودلير" نفسه الذي نعرف في القصائد والكتابات النقدية، بدأ نديّته المخاتلة، وروحه الجريحة وتمزقه بين قاع الحياة كما كان يراها، موحلة ضيقة باعثة على السأم، وآفاقها الروحية حيث الخلاص والنقاء، مع فارق وحيد أنه في قصائده يمارس هذا التمزق ويحوّله إلى شعر، مع ما في الشعر من تمنع واستقصاء، بينما هو في اليوميات يسائله ويحاوره ومن ثم، يكشف لنا عن أسراره بشكل غير معهود.
في "اليوميات" نحن أمام النص وقد تحول إلى "ورشة عمل" لإعداد نصوص أخرى، أو لإضاءتها، هنا نقترب أكثر من طريق عمل الشاعر. نرى "كائناته" لا كما تبدو في نصوصه التي رضي لها أن تسفر عن وجهها للناس، بل نعايشها وهي "جنين" ثم نراها في تشكلها وتكونها تنمو وتستوي مكتوبة، ونرى صاحبها يقول ثم يعيد القول، يقول ويستدرك، يقول ويصمت. ومن ثم فـ"يوميات" بودلير لها أهمية خاصة، الأهمية نفسها التي تكتسبها "زلة اللسان" حين تكون في هيئة "زلة قلم".
