إن هُويَّة الشعوب لا تتحدَّد بقرار سياسي أو مادة في دستور دولة، ولكنها تتحدَّد وتتخلَّق وتنمو وتزدهر بالحاضنة الثقافية للوطن الأم. فالوطن الذي يستمد هُويَّتَه من خارج أرضه هو وطن ضائع مشتت غير متجانس.
نحتاج إلى إعادة اكتشاف الـهُويَّة الـمصرية القومية، بعيدًا عن التوجهات السياسية أو الدينية؛ فتلك التوجهات ما هي إلا نتائج مرحلية لا تصلح لأن تكون أساسًا حضاريًّا لتحديد هُويَّة شعب عظيم هو الذي أنتجها.
ففي الواقع، لا توجد أوطان مـتخلفة، ولكن توجد فقط أوطان فشلنا فـي حبها وتـحليلها.
