لعلاقة بين العلم والسياسة وبين العلم والدين؛ والعلم في عصر ما بعد الحداثة ثلاثة موضوعات يتناولها الكتاب بالتحليل والمناقشة؛ للوقوف على حقيقة العلاقات المتشابكة الي تربط بين تلك الحالات. أما المنطلق الأساسي للكتاب فهو النظر إلى العلم بوصفه ظاهرة سياسية وموضوع صراع بين مختلف الفئات الاجتماعية والفعاليات السياسية في الجتمع. فالعلم اليوم ليس مجرد اختراعات وتكنولوجيا تساعد الإنسان في السيطرة على الطبيعة وحل مشاكله معها، بل اتضح أنه يساعد في سيطرة الإنسان على الإنسان نفسه؛ وأنه أخذ ينخرط بوتيرة متسارعة في مشاكل السياسة، ويدخل في حياة البشر بطريقة غير مسبوقة؛ لدرجة أنه أخذ يعيد تشكيل السياسة نفسها، وراح يعيد أشكال التديّن على نحو مختلف الأمر الذي أدى إلى توسع أشكال توظيفه سياسياً؛ وإعادة تأويله من قبل رجال الدين؛ كل بحسب طريقته في الهيمنة على المجتمع دون أن يعي ذلك أنه ليس للعلم بحد ذاته مشكلات كبرى أخذت تثقل على كاهل المجتمعات.
