يطلق على العلم الذى يعنى بالنازلة عدة مصطلحات: فقة النوازل - فقه الواقع (يعنى فقه الحياة التى يعيشها الشخص) - فقه المقاصد (ومقاصد الشريعة هى مولدة للنوازل، فالنوازل أحكامها تستنبط من مقاصد الشريعة وتعلل بها) - فقه الأولويات (يعنى أن النازلة سواء كانت للفرد أو المجتمع فهى أولى بالبحث والإستقصاء وإبراز الحكم من غيرها. فهى من الأولويات فى هذا الجانب) - فقه الموازنات (أى إن من أبرز الوسائل لإيضاح فقه النازلة، الموازنة بينها وبين ما يشبهها أو يقاربها).
وترجع أهمية دراسة فقه النوازل إلى: إنارة السبيل أمام الناس بإيضاح حكم هذه النازلة حتى يعبدوا الله على بصيرة وهدى ونور، فى منهج إسلامى واضح فلو ترك أهل الحل والعقد - وهم المجتهدون - التصدى لتلك النوازل دون إيضاح لأحكامها، لصار الناس فى تخبط ثم أستفتوا من لا يصل إلى رتبة الاجتهاد، وهذا قد يفتى بغير علم فيضل ويضل، وعلى هذا الأساس فلا بد من طرق هذا الباب والاستعانة بالله.
التصدى لدراسة فقه النوازل من أهل الحل والعقد عند وقوع الواقعة لإظهار حكمها الشرعى يبين للعالم أجمع كمال الشريعة وصلاحها لكل زمان ومكان.
