تحظى التربية الدينية في عالم اليوم باهتمام واسع على مستوى المعرفة التي تقدمها أو على مستوى السلوك الذي تريده. وخصوصاً أن مجتمعات عدة تحولت من مجتمعات منسجمة وموحدة دينياً وثقافياً إلى مجتمعات متعددة. كما ساعد التطور الهائل والمتسارع في تقنيات الاتصال على التعرف إلى آراء المفكرين حيال التربية الدينية وسبب اهتمامهم بها، وبالواقع الديني. وإلى الإطلاع على موقع التربية الدينية في النظام التعليمي وفي المناهج الدراسية في هذا البلد أو ذاك.
