يحدثنا الدكتور علي بن إبراهيم النملة عن ظاهرتي الاستشراق والتنصير، ويوضح لنا العلاقة بينهم على مر التاريخ، فمسألة ارتباط الاستشراق بالتنصير مسألة مسلم بها من قبل المستشرقين أنفسهم، كما أنه معلوم تاريخيًا أن الدوافع التبشيرية كانت أول محرك للحركات الاستشراقية مع بداية الاحتكاك بالمسلمين. فالأمر مسلم به من جانب المستشرقين قبل التسليم به من الدارسين للاستشراق من العرب والمسلمين، ولكن الغير مسلم به هو مسألة التعميم، بمعنى ربط الاستشراق كله بالتنصير، وربط التنصير كله بالاستشراق، إذ إن هناك استشراقا لم يتكئ على التنصير، كما أن هناك تنصيرا لم يستفد من الاستشراق. وفي هذا الكتاب يوضح لنا الدكتور علي بن إبراهيم النملة هذه الفكرة ويوضح لنا هذه النظرة حيث يأخذنا في رحلة ممتعة نتعمق في دراسة الاستشراق من حيث مناهجه وطوائفه وفئاته ومدارسه ومنطلقاته، وأهدافه حتى تتجلى هذه النقطة ونعرف وجه الارتباط بين الظاهرتين محل البحث.
