الكوارث الطبيعية كتاب يتعرض لما يحدث طبيعيا دون تدخل الانسان شهدت فترة التسعينات من هذا القرن ميلاد علم جديد ، هو علم الأخطار والكوارث الطبيعية، وقد غدا علما راسخا له مؤتمراته الدولية والإقليمية ودورياته العلمية، ونظرياته ونماذجه، ومفاهيمه ومصطلحاته. وبدا الاهتمام به يتضح في اقسام الجغرافيا وعلوم الأرض والعلوم الاجتماعية الأخري إلي جانب علم السياسة. هذا الكتاب يتناول الكوارث الطبيعية في الفكر الجغرافي الحديث حتى وقتنا الحاضر في محاولة لشرح المفاهيم الأساسية الخاصة بالكوارث الطبيعية، ثم يتناول با التحليل الأخطار والكوارث الجيولوجية من زلال وبراكين وأساليب التعامل البشري معها، كما خصص فصلا للأخطار والكوارث الجوية والمائية من عواصف وسيول وفيضانات وجفاف وجليد، إلي ما يتبع ذلك من أخطار يتعرض لها سطح الأرض من تدهور خصائص التربة والتصحر والانهيارات الأرضية، والهبوط السطحي للأرض وتدهور وإفساد البيئة الساحلية. إنه كتاب يتحدث عن الحدث ومواجهته بالاستعداد لما يعود علي دنيانا بالحماية والوقاية من تلك الأخطار قبل حدوثها أو تخفيف وقعها إذا حدثت ، وهو جديد تبعا لحداثة العلم الذي يعالجه، ولعلم ذلك يكون لبنه في بناء هذا العلم الذي يخطو خطواته الأولي ، وسيكون في حاجة إلي الجهد والعناء حتى يتم البناء
