ذكر "آدم فولدز" في أحد حواراته الصحفية أنه يمكنه تصنيف هذا الكتاب كرواية شعرية قصيرة, وأنه بالفعل كان يحلم بترجمته إلي اللغة العربية لكون الكتاب يدور حول ثورة الماوماو في كينيا ضد الإنجليز, والتي أستغرقت ثماني سنوات من السخط العام ضد إمبراطورية جلالة الملكة في هذه الفترة, وهي الثورة التي أدت إلي أستقلال كثير من الدول.
الإفريقية ويعترف "فولدز" بأنه لم يكن معنياً كثيراً بالثوار أو المواطنين أبناء البلاد المستعمرة وإنما عبر أكثر عن الإنجليز في هذه الفترة, ومن ثم يري أن القارئ العربي قد يجد في بلاده ظروفاً مشابهة للظروف التي يحويها هذا الكتاب, والسبب الثاني الذي يسوفه "آدم فولدز" لـ محبة ترجمة هذا الكتاب إلي اللغة العربية أنه يعرف أن الشعر في الأدب العربي يمثل ذروة الهرم الإبداعي ومن ثم فكتبه مناسبة لثقافة تعطي هذا الأهتمام العظيم للشعر, حيث إن "الكلمة المكسورة" رواية مكتوبة في قالب شعري و "جنون المتاهة" رواية تتناول السيرة الذاتية لشاعرين إنجليزيين هما: "جون كلير" و "ألفرد تنيسون" خلال فترة إقامتهما معاً داخل إحدي المصحات النفسية.
