مفهوم العلم:
هذا الكتاب موجه للقراء من غير التخصصات العلمية لتعريفهم بشكل مبسط على معنى العلم وموضوعاته وما هو خارج عنها. وتأتي ضرورة هذا البيان في هذا الوقت لسببين اثنين؛ الأول هو اضطراد تداول العلوم الزائفة والترويج لها بشكل كاد يطغى -أو ربما طغى بالفعل- على رواج مصادر العلم الحقيقي، ولأنها -أي العلوم الزائفة- تتلبس لباس العلم وتستخدم بعض أدواته، فقد كان من الضروري أن نقف لتوضيح الفرق بين العلمين، إن نجاوزنا بتسمية العلوم الزائفة علومًا. أما السبب الثاني فهو الغشاوة المحيطة بحد العلم الحقيقي، وجهل الكثيرين بما هو خارج موضوعه، وهو ما يوقعنا في كثير من الخلط والمغالطة، كاجتراح أدوات العلم في النقاشات الماورائية (الميتافيزيقية).
يتناول هذا الكتاب تعريف العلم ومدارسه المنهجية والطريقة التي وصل بها إلى هذه المكانة من الثقة. ويتخلل الكتاب الكثير من القصص لدفع الملل عن القارئ، والتي يستخدم بعضها كمثال توضيحي، والبعض الآخر لمناقشة أصلها وسبب انتشارها. كما يعتبر هذا الكتاب محاولة لتبسيط النقاشات المنطقية التي تدور وراء منهج الاستدلال العلمي.
