Book Description
عرف المحيط الأطلسي عن قدامى الجغرافيين بالبحر المحيط أو بحر الظلمات، وذلك لاعتقادهم بأنه ليس بعد شواطئه أرض مسكونة. وقد اشتهر بين الناس اليوم أن كولمبس هو الذي اكتشف العالم الجديد سنة 1492م، ثم توالت اكتشافات بقية القارتين في السنوات التي تلت. ويعتبر الغربيون أن جزر المحيط الأطلسي مثل الكناري والأزور لم تكتشف إلا قبل كولمبس بفترة وجيزة. ولكن التراث العربي الإسلامي في الجغرافية والتاريخ يشير إشارات مقتضبة إلى رحلات قام بها رواد مسلمون إلى جزر المحيط الأطلسي والكاريبي، ومحاولات للتوغل في بحر الظلمات انقطع خبر أهلها، حيث لم يعودوا إلى أرض الوطن.
وتشير الدراسات الحديثة من أثار وتقاليد وثقافة الهنود الحمر بالأمريكتين إلى وجود صلة لبعضهم باللغة العربية والإسلام. وكل هذه الأخبار التي وردت في كتب التراث، والمكتشفات الحديثة عن قبائل الأمريكتين ترد متفرقة متناثرة هنا وهناك، والمؤلف، وبعد جمعه لهذه المعلومات يوردها في هذا الكتاب مرتبة متسلسلة، للخروج منها بنتائج ومسائل مطروحة للباحثين، للمضي قدماً في الكشف عن مزيد من المعلومات في هذا الموضوع.
