رواية ألعاب العمر المتقدم للروائي لويس لانديرو، تحكي الرواية قصة الموظف البسيط،غريغوريو أولياس ،الذي يعمل في قسم الأستقبال الموظف العادي ، الأكثر من عادي على سبيل الدقة ، يكلف في العمل بالتحدث مع المندوب الجوال " خيل " الذي يتجول هناك في الأرياف . خيل الأكثر من عادي كذلك ، يسير في حياته كما لو أنها تشبه تناول الماء لحظة العطش فقط . تبدأ الحكاية بينهما ، وما تلبث الأكاذيب أن تتوالى ، لأنك في لحظة الانتباه إلى حياتك من الخارج قد تشعر بأنها تافهة ، ولذلك يلجأ غريغوريو إلى ابتداع قصص لا تمت إلى واقعه بصلة ، ومايلبث كذلك أن يصدقها هو نفسه طالما أن الطرف الآخر قد بدأ بتمجيدها والفخر بها . يتحول غريغوريو الى " اوغسطو فاروني " المهندس الجذاب والشاعر المتعدد اللغات والرحالة ، وينغمس في الأكاذيب حتى يقرر " خيل " بأن يترك حياته المحتضرة ويتوجه إلى زيارته في المدينة . يصاب غريغوريو بالهلع فعندما تصدق الكذبة لا يمكنك أن تتراجع عنها . وحينئذٍ تبدأ اللعبة شديدة الخطورة . بعد رحلة طويلة مع الكذب بين شخصيات الرواية، تشعر وانت تتقدم نحو الاربعين انك ستصاب حينها بأزمة منتصف العمر كما هي عند غريغوريو اولياس، كلنا نريد ان نكون فاروني العظيم في المستقبل ولكن فاروني هذا غير موجود إلا في دماغ داثيو خيل مونروي الذي اصيب هو الآخر بنفس الأزمة.. عمل عظيم.!
