تهتم هذه الدراسة ببحث موضوع مهم وخطير في دراسات شعر الحداثة العربي، هو موضوع الشعرية. وترتبط الشعرية بتطور مفاهيم الحداثة، وتعاقب حركات التجديد في حقل الشعر، ولعل الحديث عن الحداثة والتجديد من جهة، والحديث عن الشعرية، حديثان ينفتح الواحد منهما على الآخر، فلكل حركة حداثية أو تجديدية عناصر تعتمدها لتستمد منها سمة الشعرية، وبهذا تتعدد الشعريات وفاقاً لتعدد الحداثات وحركات التجديد. ويتركز اهتمام هذه الدراسة على الشعريات العربية منذ أواخر النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، ويتضمن هذا التحديد التاريخي "حركة شعر التفعيلة" التي كانت انطلاقتها الحقيقية، على أيدي نازك الملائكة والسياب، سنة 1947، ثم يمتد بظلاله فوق "الشعر الحرّ (غير الموزون)" الذي كتبه جبرا إبراهيم جبرا، وتوفيق صايغ، ومن حذا حذوهما منذ النصف الأول من خمسينات القرن ذاته، ومن جهة أخرى، فإن هذا التحديد يتضمن "قصيدة النثر" التي نشأت في النصف الثاني من خمسينات ذلك القرن. وبالتالي، فإن اهتمام هذه الدراسة لا ينصرف إلى الموزون دون غير الموزون، بل هو موجه إلى كل نص ينتسب إلى الشعر أو يدعي إليه نسباً، بحثاً عن مستجدات القصيدة العربية، التي شكلت شعريتها، وبلورت سماتها وملامحها. ولفهم مستجدات الخريطة الشعرية، ومفرداتها في المرحلة المستهدفة، لا بدّ من التعريج أحياناً على ما طرأ عليها من تطور خلال النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، لأن الظواهر الإنسانية، ومنها الشعر، لا تكون نبتاً شيطانياً، بل هي نتيجة تطورات وتراكمات، وتفاعلات داخل دنيا الأدب، وخارجها.
